Problems with Factory Mounts The factory BMW rear shock mounts are generally a little soft, to provide the most possible acoustically dampening in the vehicle. However, design precludes them from being stout enough to withstand the rigors of aftermarket suspension, or even badly damaged roads. A decent sized pothole can send a perfectly good factory rear shock mount to pop out, making it entirely useless necessitating replacement. The E46 3-Series & M3 strut towers use very thin steel and can crack when driven under specific conditions (lowered cars, potholes, etc.). A sport suspension (shorter, stiffer springs) or coilovers will transfer road hazards energy directly to the strut tower deforming and causing costly damage. These Rogue Engineering reinforcement plates are direct bolt on pieces that strengthen the weak strut tower to prevent damage. Note: These fit just fine with aftermarket camber plates.
